Team Solent Basketball dates back many years prior to becoming a national league outfit, and boasts men’s (EBL Division 3) and women’s (EBL Division 2) teams that also compete in the inter-university BUCS leagues.

Women's side

The women's side played in the National League from the 1977/78 season until the 1984/85 season. Ten years later it was reformed as the Solent Pacers. Many people who were involved in the team still have strong basketball connections in the area and some are still with the Solent Stars club within its Youth programme.

women basketballThe team was known over the first seasons as Scandinavian Homes Solent,Sperring Solent Suns and Solent Suns.

Promotion to Division 1 led to the recruitment of Eileen Dunn, a powerful six foot American player who helped the team become the first promoted team not to be relegated the following season, when they finished in fifth (out of eight) position. She was ultimately followed by another American, Maggie Joseph, after three seasons.

Men's side 

The men's squad currently plays in EBL Division 3. Basketball men 2The team was formed in 2009 after the two local senior men’s teams (Solent Stars and Southampton Trailblazers) dissolved. Team Solent was created to fill the void left by the old clubs, and also to provide a team to the risingyoung talent within Southampton Solent University.
